Site Design Philosophy

This is the "philosophy" for the design of this website. The philosophy applies to the whole site except for the SaladFrosting wiki, because that is its own platform.

These are the goals:

  1. Accept the existence of imperfection
  2. Be as straightforward as possible
  3. Be easy for me to maintain
  4. Be easy for visitors to navigate
  5. Be easy for visitors to read
  6. Have meaningful content

A result from this is using plain HTML and a little bit of CSS.

This appears in the website so that the home page contains a bunch of info that lays out the sitemap and serves as the navigation hub for the whole site. To reach these goals, each page is hand-written and I use a custom static site generation script. I would rather write one big page that contains maybe a little too much info than create a hierarchy or multiple pages that spread out the information.

The blog is frequently updated, and pages are created for separate projects, topics, or essays. Once a blog post is posted, it will probably not be edited. Once a page is created, it will likely be updated.
